What is KPV?

KPV is a bioactive tripeptide consisting of the amino acids lysine-proline-valine, which occurs as a C-terminal fragment in α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). This naturally occurring peptide belongs to the class of melanocortin-derived peptides and was first identified in the 1980s as a metabolic product of α-MSH processing in various tissues. The molecular formula of KPV is C₁₆H₃₀N₄O₄ with a molecular weight of 342.44 Da.

Storage and Handling

KPV should be stored at -20°C in its original packaging, protected from light and moisture to prevent peptide degradation. Under these conditions, the peptide maintains its stability for at least 24 months from the production date. For reconstitution, it is recommended to use sterile distilled water or PBS (pH 7.4), with gentle mixing advised to avoid foaming. Reconstituted solutions are stable for 48 hours at 2-8°C and can be frozen at -80°C for long-term storage up to 6 months. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles and always use sterile techniques during handling to prevent contamination.
